Academic Support Programs
The After School Program will provide students with a variety of academic support including drop in study hall, small tutoring groups and an athletic tutoring program. Other programs will be added as needed
Positive Minds Group
Facilitated by the Mentoring Center in Oakland – PMG is a trans-formative mentoring group for young male students. Group mentoring sessions attempt to correct the mentality that gives rise to destructive behavior.
Discovering the Realities of Our Community
Provided Bay Area Community Resources D-ROC provides youth development academic support though a trained facilitator. D-Roc gives students a greater sense of environmental consciousness in regards to drugs, alcohol and their community. D-ROC will also provide service learning opportunities and college prep skills.
Art
Students will learn various art techniques with campus art teacher Steve Mainini and will produce different projects each semester.
Hip Hop Dance
East Bay Center of Performing Arts instructor Donna Walton provides dance instruction for students interested in dance battles, competitions and learn new and more challenging techniques.
Eagle Fit Club
YMCA fitness instructors lead circuit training classes that include aerobics, kickboxing and boot camp style workouts. Students will get nutrition tips.
Fashion & Sewing Club
Campus teacher Jackie Ervin teaches the basic of sewing and alternations. Participating students will do fashion showcase at the end of the year.
Charm School
Support group serving adolescent girls in their transition to adulthood. Students receive group mentor ship and learn overall life skills lessons in an effort to provide young girls the support they need to make healthy and safe decisions.
World Drum
East Bay Center of performing Arts instructor provides students with percussion instruments from around the world for group instruction.
Youth Movement Records
Students have the opportunity to gain insight on a career in the music business or develop their talents as music artist. Students will create and record their own music in a studio setting or hone stage skills as well as prepare for music events.
Youth Speaks
Creators of the national youth poetry slam movement and HBO Documentary Brave New Voices, Youth Speaks will have a 10-week residency on campus. Students will learn leadership, teamwork and creative expression through poetry performance.
